Pros

Self-scheduling newly initiated and works fairly well—not entirely based on seniority.

Cons

Often dangerous nurse ratios of 1:5, chronically short staffed, culture of rewarding staff who pick up extra shifts, looked down on if you don’t, management is ineffectual and shows preference for friends or colleagues with seniority. If your new you’re out of luck getting good assignments and you’ll be overwhelmed with stress and unable to take your breaks because there’s often not a dedicated nurse who will relieve you but when present will preferentially give breaks to friends. Strong religious cliques. Unfair treatment.
