Pros

Adyen is a great place to work for a few reasons: - great product - huge amount of autonomy - great work/life balance - great people and culture

Cons

Many of the things that make Adyen great are also a double edged sword: - lack of processes (even in performance reviews) leads to high degrees of subjectivity - large middle management bottleneck (people who got promoted into people leaders as the company grew OR external managers with 0 payments knowledge) - it is a very comfortable place to work, which leads to a good chunk of people idly sitting in their roles comfortably with no aspirations of progession - it is not a place where you will quickly progress up the career ladder (if at all) - there is a large undercurrent of 'coffee chat' politics - leans on company culture + work/life balance in exchange for competitive salaries

Pros

Amazing benefits (catered lunch, comprehensive health care)

Cons

Horrible culture - This company very much acts like a start-up (heavy drinking culture, young gossipy environment) while the reality is that this is an established large scale global organization No Growth Opportunity - Related to the point above. They promise you that they are a growing company filled with opportunities but in reality they are already established and all higher up roles get hired externally. Internal mobility has become relatively impossible. Team Leads - Adyen has a huge middle management problem. Too many people were moved into management roles in the start up phase of the company when they clearly weren’t ready to lead a team. Now we have way more team leads than needed, with most of them being inexperienced, incompetent, and overbearing.

Toxic culture

Pros

Cafeteria, free coffee and snacks

Cons

Toxic environment especially within Merchant Operations / AML - turnover is incredibly high, many people leave after a few months or sometimes within first weeks after realizing what they got themselves into - no foresight, planning or adequate training. Lack of organization is framed as “fintech mentality” - managers lack management skills, bow down to the pressure from above without resistance - analysts seem to be treated like disposables, the company relies heavily on external contractors with no intention to keep them. No integration or development opportunities
