Pros

Still has rather good benefits, though not as good as the "Old HP". Great support for dealing with life/work issues. Many managers came up via the HP Way. They are great at balancing treating customers, employees, and the communities where we do business well with the imperatives of doing business and making a decent profit.

Cons

Focus on financial metrics has resulted in round after round of downsizing. The deadwood is long, long gone. Extremely productive employees are now going overboard. I question the ability of the company to create innovative products that will have decent sales after the extreme cutbacks in R&D and manufacturing. Morale is bad, because no amount of layoffs seems sufficient to get the company to where CEO & CFO want it to be financially. The recent split of Agilent Labs into two separate components, one facing the bio/chemical analysis businesses and one facing the electronics measurement business, seems to signal that upper management no longer believes that the businesses make sense together.

Pros

Benefits are better than some companies its size (although not as good as it once was as the original HP.) Some managers still remember and try to observe the HP Way--respect employees and help them be successful, to ensure the company is successful. Some employees are very dedicated to their customers in spite of Agilent internal limitations.

Cons

Some of Agilent's best people have been forced to retire or been laid-off. Company morale is at a all time low--there is no trust in upper management and their decision making strategies. There is no appreciation of employees and there is little room for career advancement or growth. Agilent recently laid-off 30% of its people from the T&M business group. Regardless of skill and/or experience, it appeared that most laid-off employees were long-time HP/Agilent employees who knew the real HP Way--it is sad that those HP Way days are over.

Pros

Good location in the South Bay. Campus is much nicer now that corporate has moved down to the Santa Clara site. Almost all of the benefits have been taken away in these days of cost cutting.

Cons

The company expects you to work long hours and weekends. This company used to have a great work/life balance philosophy. Now they only want to know "what have you done for me lately?" The managers from the HP days were wonderful. They cared about mapping out your career and which skills were your best assets. Sadly, those sorts of mangers don't exist at Agilent.
