Pros

Excellent benefits and pay, excellent work-life balance if you have the right manager (some don't.) Interesting projects, people very skilled and friendly, opportunities for professional development, chance to start and run "skunkworks" projects. Good fitness center. Research people usually get a real office (admin buildings are mostly cubes, though).

Cons

Huge layoffs in research whenever there's a serious economic downturn (most recent was pretty shocking - about half the research and research support population.) Lack of long-term research thinking amongst upper management.

Pros

The pay is decent and benefits are good. As a former USAF mechanic this was my first civilian job. There are a lot of long term employees and that's a good indicator of a decent employer. Now that the economy has turned a little sour there have been cut backs not quite as many freebies and perks like paid office parties or as frequent paid lunches. But the generally the morale is good.

Cons

In the current economy there's some talk about whether our plant will be here. With other plants nearby that "produce product" our distribution point could be closed. That is not a happy feeling.

Pros

If you want to balance life and work, but trade off career advance this is your place. Most of the people are well intentionated and HR look for your familiy balance. HR really tries hard to promote diversity and social activitites. Job Security--> besides the current downturns from financial crisis Air Products and Chemicals is well known to be secure employer. People rarly get fire even if the outperform...in other words, once you are in ( headquarter only) you can have a good time, work little, make friends and be sure to have a salary. Facilitates have a fitness center for employees and its own shuttle.

Cons

First of all its location and culture.... PA dutch culture is within the company... no change or speed therefore few exitment. Speed--> decisiions at all levels have to be made by group rather than individuals with power.. so you have to learn how to be sensitive with EVERYONE even if the business decision is obvious. Excitment--> Most top excecutives/ managers are looking for their retirements and trend to postpone decisions, or avoid innovative approaches. If you enter APD you have to acknowledge to be in the same position for a while .. it doesnt matter how hard or good job you do... you would need to be 10 years before getting a level of responsability . Only exeption will be if you are a former Navy in finance
