Alcoa was once a great company that valued its employees - not these days though - what a shame.

Pros

Our workplace has good shift structures and good workmates, plus the money is quite reasonable and it's close to home.

Cons

We currently have poor management and a complete lack of direction exhibited constantly by mainly South African senior staff at the direction of South American senior management. Unfortunately neither group have any idea how to get the best out of Australians. They want us to be loyal and committed when there is absolutely no loyalty shown to their employees whatsoever. Lay-offs carried out because of some foreign ideology, permanent jobs go, casual workers replace them and the community suffers.

Pros

Appreciated for what you bring to the table, given plenty of opportunities to present to leaders, easy access to leaders at all levels.

Cons

You need to be prepared to work very hard with fewer and fewer resources, most employees take their laptops home and work nights/weekends to try to keep afloat. Continuous lay offs leave remaining staff with low morale.

Alscoa is a good place to start adavance and to increase your knowledge of manufacturing.

Cons

They tend to treat there Senior Management and experienced employees like crap and tend to let senior employee's go and replace with less experienced employees at cheaper pay rates.
