Overall, a disappointing experience

Pros

The industry is very interesting. Benefits are average to above average. Place a very high importance on safety.

Cons

Work-life balance isn't good. You should be ready to give up lots of personal time without being compensated if you plan on working here. They need to increase staffing levels in many of the salaried positions but can't/won't. They'll ask you to do many different cost savings tasks, many of which are outside the realm of your discipline, not implement your ideas, then penalize you when it comes to performance reviews and bonuses because not enough money was saved. So not only have you wasted much of your time (which you could have devoted to the projects which inevitably get behind on unless you work extremely long hours) but you're ultimately punished for it. Salary increases were consistently delayed and minimal during my time there. Not much mobility within the company as far as I can tell - mostly lateral moves or moves with more responsibility but no added benefit beyond the title. They are "doing you a favor" by "promoting" you (even though they won't call it a "promotion.")

Short term strategy wins versus long range planning

Pros

-Great salary, especially for new employees. -There are a handful of standardized and programmatic development programs to develop yourself.

Cons

Incredible stress at higher level leadership positions often required long days every day. Unbelievably high turnover at the facility at which I was working continued to add to stress. Lack of resources in groups already stretched thin led to stressful days.

No Work/Life Balance

Pros

The company has competitive pay, good benefits package and a friendly atmosphere

Cons

they preach a work/life balance at the same time asking you to work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, they have a tendency to try to integrate themselves into your life (stop smoking, lose weight, exercise, join a gym), it is great that the company endorses good health, but shoving it down an employees throat is not condusvice to a good working relationship. When people leave the company, they are generally not replaced, the work load is spread over the people who are left.
