Pros

Great place to develop in a manufacturing environment. Plenty of projects available for improvement.

Cons

It can be all about the numbers at the end of the day, sometimes compromising the highest quality of the products. Rushing and long hours will develop plenty of inefficient reworking and lost potential. Business needs demands long hours inclusive of weekends for all departments involved with manufacturing.

Pros

The company has excellent benefits, excellent work/life balance and significant workplace flexibility (both) depending on your immediate supervisor. The campus is truly amazing and many of the people are definitely team members/players.

Cons

For the bulk of my years at Alcon - morale was actually quite good - low turnover - people were regarded as important and significant and the workforce resource wasn't too lean - then the layoffs started (after the IPO and the pre-purchase period prior to the Novartis re-culture). Company morale, sufficient people resources and knowledgeable leadership took a strong nosedive and it hasn't recovered yet.

Wave of changes creating turmoil in the organization. It's everyone for their own n on their own.
