Not a Great Place to Work

Pros

Really great benefits - 401k, medical, good bonus structure

Cons

If you're a straight, conservative, white male with experience in sales, Alcon is the place for you! If you're anything else, stay as far away as possible - you will be discriminated against, degraded, humiliated and mocked in public. Opportunities for advancement will not be open to you, no matter how outstanding your performance. The culture at Alcon is really negative - promotions are based on connections and networking, rather than performance. People are stuck in less rewarding positions without hope of advancement. The work is not fulfilling - it tends to be the same thing, day after day, building PowerPoint presentations on the same topics. There are no new growth or learning opportunities available. Management ignores employee requests for lateral moves, and shifting around within greater Novartis doesn't seem to be an option at all.

Pros

Part of Novartis, exceptionally high compensation & benefits

Cons

Incredibly old-fashioned management style. Every single decision, no matter how small goes up the ladder. Culture is one that completely discourages independent thinking and decision making.
