If you have a longstanding career in the insurance industry, nothing in this review should surprise you as this is an industry problem rather than specific to Alliant. However, Alliant isn't doing much to get out in front of these problems and become an industry leader for organizational culture. Racism, sexism, classism are often easily identified in hiring and promotion processes, in most every meeting, and around every corner within teams and offices. It's a difficult work environment where gaslighting happens weekly. Workdays are often well over the 7.5 hours that they tout to you during the interview process. The feelings of belonging and inclusion are lost on leadership. Certain departments, of course, are better run than others. But, for the most part you can assume a medium to high level of toxicity throughout the organization. The benefits package is astronomically priced. Don't bother counting on that benefit if you have a family you want to insure. My best advice to prospective employees, especially for POC, LGBTQ, or anyone else with a historically marginalized identity: visit LinkedIn and search Alliant's employees. Find ones that seem to represent you through the posts on their page or other identifiable characteristics (interests are listed on LinkedIn), then reach out to them for their insights into a department or unit. Should you choose to accept an offer of employment with Alliant, be prepared to experience these things first- or second-hand. Become an ally to others by raising concerns when and where you can.
