Pros

Pros of working for Allstate include a recognizable name in the industry so potential customers are aware of the company you work for, most agencies offer some sort of benefits package, and it is a good starting point to "become baptised by fire" in the insurance industry.

Cons

The pay is so disappointing, base salary is usually 30 to 35k. It depends on the agency owner as to your compensation schedule requirements but expect to work well over 40+ hours a week just to make ends meet. This is largely in part to the fact you only make commision on new business. You get ZERO for customer renewals, although it is your job to keep the customer and service their policy. Agency owners can change the amount they agreed to pay you without notice.

Pros

Lots of opportunity to work on different projects, and grow your career in different ways.

Cons

Average salary, tiny raises. If you don’t have a good manager to support you, you could get stuck in a role.
