      Pros

      Allstate offers employees average benefits, pretty competitive salaries and hires some really, really smart people.

      Cons

      Unfortunately, the super smart people spend a lot of their time in endless meetings, starting and stopping the same solutions, repackaged as new initiatives, year after year. Allstate was once a pre-eminenet leader in P&C insurance, but it has been losing ground. As an employee, expect to put in long hours, be available at any time, and then be put out to pasture after you turn 50.

      Pros

      Brand recognition. The ability to own your own business. Great signing bonuses, support, training. You can make a very good income. You own your interest in your book of business. You can test out every idea you have ever thought your previous boss should try.

      Cons

      You will need about $50,000 to start. Make sure your rates are competitive for the area you are wanting to start your agency. Marketing can be difficult when you are getting started. You must find new and creative ways to market your agency. Staffing will be the most frustrating part in owning your business. Master this and the marketing piece and you will do great.

      Positive work environment for a company that cares about your future and wellbeing.

      Pros

      The salary is decent to start, the supervisors are involved and invested, you work independently while part of a supportive team, and endless opportunities for advancement

      Cons

      The training is long and very repetitive. After completing training you have a Tuesday through Saturday schedule for 12-16 weeks, then a rotational Saturday about every 6 weeks after that.
