This is a meeting heavy culture. Usually you won't get work done until you go home. People are promoted based on politics. If the staff doesn't like you for reasons unrelated to performance such as the way you dress, how you talk, or if you don't wear make up they will find a reason to get rid of you. You have to leave the organization and come back in order to get a promotion faster. In the technology department the work never stops especially if you are on a deployment you have to work over the weekend. You will get a different day off if you do work over the weekend. They won't pay you market rate salaries even if you have the experience. Usually the insurance industry never pays you market rate. The last 3 years have been RIFS and people have been re-banded and demoted. Their salaries have been categorized into lower levels so people that were making 6 figures are back to 5 figures. You have to realize right now Allstate is losing customer and money so of course they are getting rid of people. If they bring in entry-level employees they pay them the same amount they paid them 14 years ago. It's not enough to keep up with the cost of living. Many people are leaving the company right now. If you are new to the company you will get an orientation but not much training. Don't be surprised if you do administrative work instead of your actual job. This is a company that doesn't like to change. If you have good ideas they are not usually implemented if it means changing the existing technology systems. Everyone is worried about their job s so people keep good information to themselves and they won't share it with others to protect their jobs. The performance system is set up to make sure a few people fail at the bottom so even if everyone does a really good job someone has to fail.
