Great Employer, frequently named as one of the Best Employers in Canada. Great benefits, flexibility etc..

Cons

Not much opportunities to advance career in branches. All professional positions are in HQ.

Pros

Great people at the company but most have been there forever and that culture is not so good. Lots of employees extend lunch and breaks and nobody says anything so essentially a 6 hour work day.

Cons

Leadership has little vision. It is a statistical driven company with little care for the client. It is all about contributing to the US parent profit $$. They bought Pembridge at $400M in 1999 and it has proven to be a big mistake. Now they will save every $ to make it okay but the leadership at Pembridge is unchallenged. They get away with it so the rest of the company suffers immensely. You can kiss raises and fun good bye unless it comes from corporate relations - merely cupcakes!!! Really....they are at the beck and call of the US and the current president is a puppet that is loved by Canada and the US because of the profits. This model was created by some pretty good people a long time ago and now the US is taking credit. You will have good work but will go nowhere.

Stressful sales job

Pros

Good opportunity to make some quick cash if you are aggressive and not looking to pursue this as a long term career.

Cons

It only makes sense if you get a decent bonus. The problem us that it is not based upon your own merit, it is a team effort and the agency has to preform. In other words, you are in a good agency you have a CHANCE to get a bonus, if not then sorry, nothing for you. The bottom line is that the amount of people stressed out at this job is incredible due to the extremely poor technology used, the outdated practices and the fact that Allstate market is so selective that you can market all you want, you turn away more business than what you can write. Meaning: you advertise for Allstate out of your own pocket, they get to keep all the leads, all the client information and you are only as good as your last sale. sell, sell and sell me more but don't give discounts, don't advertise outside of your agency area, don't advertise without approval, don't write newcomers to Canada, don't take vacation or else you dont meet your targets and the list goes on and on
