Terrible Experience

Pros

Company markets itself well to employees initially. The campus is beautiful, and the company does a good job selling itself to employees by offering good benefits. This is an okay company to get first job experience, however not at all a company that you can settle into a career with.

Cons

I had a terrible experience here. I was basically forced to move locations twice without receiving any compensation. The work/life balance is terrible. The company culture expects you to work until the job is finished. Do not go into this job anticipating that the additional effort will be rewarded or appreciated, but rather expected. The benefits are nice, however the pay is a joke. Alltech expects that you should be appreciative that you have a job, and if you don't like that, the attitude is "move on, go work elsewhere". Upper management is not well organized or transparent. The company turnover has be one of the highest in the state for a company this size. The overall turnover is a direct result from poor compensation, lack of career growth, and mistreatment of employees. The company is the perfect definition of the "peter principle", it grew too fast without developing the proper infrastructure for success. The owner appears to be very charismatic at first, but after working for a few years, you realize he only cares about the bottom line. I very much feel like the entire product line and company is a scam, and at some point this will be exposed and eventually another company will claim the current market share that Alltech holds.

Pros

Mmmm, the only thing would be the décor. This company is only about image and the headquarters location does not disappoint. Beautiful conference rooms and lobby. Excellent marketing dept, which is the only reason they are successful.

Cons

No substance. Image is more important than employees. Eccentric owner, run like a mom and pop shop. IT dept is extremely poorly managed, CIO that's afraid to make decisions or changes. Very political. The only promotions are if you have connections or know the right people. They intentionally only hire and pay below market value. Benefits are also below market norms, 3 sick days per year, ridiculous! They do not promote learning because they don't want you to be attractive to other employers. Beware - they are "buddies" with other businesses in the area and they will know if you apply for a job somewhere else (I saw it happen multiple times). High turnover. No flexibility. Salaried employees punch a time clock. Employees have to walk a very long distance up a hill to get to the parking lot in all kinds of weather, simply because a parking lot near the building would not look attractive. Speaking of image, everyone is expected to wear a corp. suit every day of the year. Absolutely everything is about looking good, not about having or keeping happy employees. It was the most bizarre company I've ever worked for. First interview was just to see how well I'd fit into the "company culture". I should have seen the Red Flag waiving. The place is very much like a cult.

Pros

Bonuses, good first job for experience, benefits good first day of employment

Cons

Management short sighted, continual removal of perks/ benefits to employees as company grows, time card mentality, wages need to be more competitive, boy's club, work not valued in company, coworkers can be catty, gossip is rampant, more concerned about appearance than function, little upward mobility for a career
