Pros

- one of the biggest environment to work for - good place to get your initial experience

Cons

- lots of automation in place, so hard to learn basics - if you want to progress you need to forget about work/life balance - benefits are a joke

Pros

Fast paced, smart individual contributors, insane growth.

Cons

Weak managers from top to bottom. Zero leadership but plenty of punishment to go around for violating policies that no one even knows exist.

Pros

This is a fun job for those who enjoy challenges and who enjoy learning new things all the time. Our environment is evolving and growing rapidly. There is allot opportunity to develop and most everyone on each of the teams we deal with is willing to share their knowledge and provide insight for any questions you may ask. There is allot of friendly competition but no real issue with people trying to step over each other to get ahead. People here are expected to be skilled and motivated enough to do their jobs without needing too much direction or supervision. Most lower level management have a very hands off approach as long as employees are performing well on their own.

Cons

Growing pains. Currently things are growing so rapidly that instead of hiring management that is used to the Amazon leadership principles Amazon has been hiring allot from outside. The down side to this is that these new employees/managers keep trying to change things to a system they are used to and killing some of the more dynamic and innovation friendly aspects of working here in a technical position. Unfortunately allot of the new managers have a poor understanding of how the technical side of things work as are trying to quantify everything with numbers, meaning they tend to think all projects with related backgrounds should take the same time and effort. These new managers also tend not to listen to people who have the technical backgrounds our jobs are based on, including other managers and instead charge head first into things they know little about. This situation will likely be temporary, but is very frustrating to deal with at the moment.
