Pros

the corp values they state are very integrated into their way of doing business

Cons

-no live training or support when you join -process-for-process sake culture - you have to do it their way or you're fighting against the current, tough environment for anyone with neurodivergence or creativity. Questioning is not accepted. You need to be an Amazon robot -those who are "very Amazonian" are sort of creepy cult people -those who succeed here are successful for doing it the Amazon way. Comms leadership have all been there forever, not been successful elsewhere -not a collaborative team - everything is "self service", figure it out yourself -cutthroat, political -somehow a tech company that uses terrible tech internally - no dynamic docs (Google or MS 356), they use Quip and terrible AWS-built products. Everything still done over email. SO. MANY. EMAILS. Feels like working in a non tech environment 20 years ago. -a tech company that doesn't pay well. You get equity in the 3rd and 4th year but it's hard to last that long. -they have quotas for the number of people they want to force out each year through PIPs and other forms of attrition. RTO just another way to force people out w/o paying severance -they are forcing people back into SEA and DC offices, folks in other offices are not going to get promoted or considered for other roles, even though they hired us in those markets -so hierachical - I was never given the chance to do the things in the JD I was hired for, or which I had 10 years of experience doing. My boss and her boss were doing the things that I was doing in my previous role at another major tech company. I was so demoralized and bored. And then they were on me about the stupid busy work I wasn't doing the right way for them. -Managers don't have time for or interest in managing - mine was annoyed when I wanted to discuss things with her. She just wanted to divide and conquer and never help me.

Worth it, but think twice

Pros

Amazon offers more competitive pay for PR professionals relative to industries outside of tech, but within tech it is on the lower side. The compensation philosophy is based on "ownership" so there is heavy emphasis on RSUs bolstering the base pay. The people who work at Amazon are incredibly bright. Working at a large corporation provides a wide array of experiences and you can easily move within the company once you are hired.

Cons

It is really difficult to get promoted and so many people get stuck. It is heavily bureaucratic, and the document writing process can be a pain. Base salaries are low among the tech industry. Strict about being in office 5 days a week.

Toxic workplace

Business Outlook

Pros

Competitive salary, global exposure, decent benefits

Cons

Racist and toxic management. Skips don't care. Managers are reactive instead of proactive. I wouldn't go back for all the money in the world.
