Pros

Amazon has figured out how to consistently integrate its core values and principles into every element of the business and organizational culture. Many other companies simply post their values on the wall and only talk about them during strategy meetings or all-hands. The company encourages big thinking and smart risk taking. The environment inspires creativity and invention through the level of talent and focus on the customer. I am constantly in awe at the caliber of the people and culture here.

Cons

Because there are so many things going on at Amazon and the growth and rate of development is so fast, things change fast and it is hard to keep track of what is going on across the company. You have to be willing and able to quickly adapt to an ever changing environment to be successful here.

Pros

The work is exciting, fresh, innovative and creative. In my 17 year career I have never been in a company where I feel that my work matters and makes a difference, every day. From your first day you I was given big problems to solve, and it has not slowed down. Amazonians want to get things done so delivering results is in everyone’s DNA. Decisions are data driven and I haven’t heard anyone say “my manager wants this so let’s do it”. I should have joined sooner, so if you have an opportunity to work at Amazon, and if you liked the people you will be working with, do it! You won’t regret it.

Cons

You need to pay attention and be very intentional about work-life balance. Amazon gives you a lot of autonomy so you can end up owning more than you can handle.
