Pros

Most DAs are in their 20s and the general culture is amiable. Amazon offers great insurance packages. Some teams have less strict rules. The job is straightforward for anyone with a proficient understanding of the English language.

Cons

DAs are severely underpaid for having Bachelors degrees (most in linguistics) and working in the expensive Boston area. Amazon labels its employees using "level" numbers; the higher your level, the more you get paid and the closer you are to the VPs. Amazon found a perfect business model: to create low-paying data jobs, making jobs for engineers easier and their VPs richer. Amazon's values include "customers first" and "frugality." Around the Boston office, frugality is not celebrated (to say the least). It's been said by one of the managers here, "once a DA always a DA." It's nearly impossible to ascend in this company, at least not without many years of service to Amazon. Every day (with few exceptions) involves the same few tasks. Some of these tasks can become very tedious after a couple of hours, days, and weeks.

Pros

My management supports me and my business clients value me. Plus, I get to wear ripped jeans to the office, cuddle puppies on my breaks, and ignore my email when I'm on vacation.

Cons

Days are intense. The business moves fast, and it has a lot of moving parts. Working here requires learning new time management and delegation skills, because what made you successful before you got to Amazon just won't be enough here.

Where are the leaders?

Pros

career development, fast paced environment so never bored, entrusted with a lot of ownership and business impacting decisions.

Cons

Culture is very political and a lot of management strong arms their reports to deliver results while providing little if any leadership. Sink or swim environment. I lasted 5 years but seen so many last less than a year.
