Pros

Direct control over code, builds, deployments. Access to AWS tools for team use. Great facility, on-campus dining.

Cons

Non-industry-standard tools. Proprietary solutions for nearly everything. Experienced developers can't leverage their years of experience in tools, libraries, etc. Pressure to work extended hours. Way, way, too many meetings. Poor personnel review practices. Hostile developer culture.

Pros

Increase your core engineering competencies. Some smart people as well as many average people. There is worse if you a desperate for a job.

Cons

Most people leave within a year - a brutal workplace, people are generally unhappy. Oncall (unpaid overtime) and a lot of the work is operational - not particularly interesting projects. Very difficult to make suggestions or improvements. You are expected to do a small tasks handed down by managers and no excuses for delays for any reason. Creative thinking is not welcomed at Amazon.

Pros

I met my step goal each day.

Cons

Seriously. If you have ANY choice at all, do NOT choose amazon to work for. It is mentally and physically exhausting, and even when you give 110%, management expects more. Speaking of management, it is rare to find someone in leadership there that is not condescending or dismissive. You are a number to these people. Come in, make your quota, and get out. It's awful, and I serisously recommend you stay away.
