Pros
For many of the folks who buy in to the media portraying the negative experiences of a few employees, the #1 pro I have of working here is the flexibility. Get your job done right and on time, take care of your customers, and you will be treated like an adult. It took a while for me to realize I was free to show up and leave when I wanted (depending on your manager), had the flexibility to WFH as needed, and never have to be worried about being micromanaged.
***(Personal bias, bringing your dog in to work is #1 for me!)
The pay is as competitive as it gets. From a base, bonus, commission, and stock perspective, it will be hard to find another company that is as much of a leader in their industry, and match what AWS offers compensation wise.
This company means it when they say they are customer obsessed. It's so refreshing to come to a company that actually puts the customer first in everything they do, rather than their own interests first, then their customers. Every decision the company, as well as each individual makes, is based off the leadership principles, and that is all the confidence you need to build trust in the organization, your colleagues, and the decisions you make.
The pace and magnitude of the innovation within AWS is incredible. Over 90% of new services are built off customer feedback, and that number continues to rise. Best of all, if we don't have the services to take care of a customer's specific use case, we have one of the most expansive partner ecosystems to make sure our customers are taken care of.
Finally, the growth opportunities are endless. Meeting your goals/quota does help get you promoted, but is not enough. Innovating within your role to take care of your customers internally and externally, simplifying processes, and creating impact felt across your team and customers' teams; it's that kind of impact that allows you to move quicker within the organization. Best of all, if you decide to change career paths within Amazon, there are HUNDREDS of different routes to go internally.
Doesn't matter what race, gender, or interests you have, there is a community at Amazon waiting for you. Benefits are great too!
Cons
I can appreciate the frugality within the facilities, but a couple more coffee options would be nice. I have seen plenty of ownership from management and at the individual contributor level, but it would be nice to see folks who are just riding coattails of others to be held to a higher standard.
