Pros

When the stock is on an upswing, it can be compelling to keep holding on for more RSUs. Initial offers are good, but there are 2 and 4 year cliffs that happen after 1) your 2 year cash bonuses end and 2) your initial stock disbursements stop at 4 years. Under Bezos this was a thriving culture for innovation, iteration, and building cool stuff. Jassy is bottom-line focused, that's it.

Cons

Everything that made Amazon peculiar in a positive way has dried up with Jassy. If you care about $$ above all, you may stick around to see how he improves the stock value, but anyone who experienced the pre-Jassy culture will tell you it is a marked turn for the negative. RTO has been handled absolutely horribly and inept managers who were one-trick pony ICs continue to get promoted. Senior leaders (L8+) hired from outside Amazon are awful and legitimately destroy orgs, cycling out trying to escape eventual PIPs themselves. Ethics and equitability do not exist except in counter-culture pockets. If you choose to work here, give yourself a time limit for your health and sanity.

Pros

This is the most dynamic workplace I've ever worked at. The people are all top caliber and everyone is really dedicated to what you do. I started as a contractor and was converted to a full time employee, so I really like that they didn't string me along like Microsoft did where I was a vendor for over three years. I also really enjoy the fact that changes that you suggest actually happen and that the environment is very fast paced. The processes I deal with on a day to day basis I helped rewrite from the ground up and its been super satisfying to seeing change unfold in a meaningful way and being allowed to shape it. I personally have a really great work life balance too and my boss has been very understanding while my wife has struggled with some health issues and I am deeply appreciative of that as well.

Cons

It's really really fast paced. If you aren't really good at what you do and able to prioritize it's easy to have a poor balance, when I first started I was working a ton of hours until we started implementing processes and improvements that made things more manageable. Another con is that you're expected to be a self-starter and a lot of teams are almost autonomous so sometimes there feels like there isn't enough direction and conflict can arise from teams having overlapping responsibility. I personally feel like its creative and fairly controlled chaos. The other con I have is that they don't offer tuition assistance for anything beyond an associates degree. I think we should invest most in professional development but I still love it here cause the people are great.
