Pros

The company is so large so it delegates a lot of responsibility and power to the lower levels of management instead of trying to micromanage everything from the top (like Microsoft does for example).

Cons

Because of aforementioned pros, your experience at AWS will depend a ton on your manager and your experience can change drastically should your manager change, not always for the best. You can have a super star manager who protects and develops his directs and is customer focused for a year and then one day you have someone who doesn’t care about anyone but himself to the point where he burns out half the team till they leave the org, all in his mad quest for promotion to L7.

Pros

The product is interesting, and you can get involved in interesting and complex customer solutions.

Cons

The management is incredibly toxic and is not there to support you. The culture rewards people who abuse the leadership principles to fit their agenda, so you run into others peers and managers who will ruin your career if it helps them. I’ve been an ethical top performer my entire sales career, and I could not believe the culture of complete snakes AWS turns out. Everyone is constantly worried about getting fired.

Pros

Salary, but more like “golden handcuffs,” also you get to put AWS on your resume.

Cons

Absolutely no feedback on your work and no support. I had six managers in two years because they kept quitting. Getting no feedback felt like I was working in the dark and I left having no real idea of how good I even was at the job. After I quit my manager refused to acknowledge it and instead started sending me emails detailing work I wasn’t getting done. I told him of course I’m not working. I don’t work there anymore and I kept asking where to mail my laptop. I learned that it looks bad for managers if someone leaves in good standing so he was trying to get me in trouble on my way out the door to make himself look better.
