Pros

Your experience will depend greatly on the team/manager you work with. It is RARE to find a manager who will support you.

Cons

Cannot emphasize enough the toxicity of the environment! There is no clear direction for the Partner Organization and the L8+ leaders in this group feel entitled. They treat employees like numbers and have absolutely no empathy. Work/life balance is non-existent.

Pros

One of the reasons why I've enjoyed working at Amazon is that you get to meet all types of people from around the world and learn about various cultures. Another reason is the constantly changing environment.

Cons

One of the most toxic and consistent problems I've found working at AWS, is that the management here is non-existent. They no longer manage people, but manages meetings all day. Communication is few and far between, a team will fix a bug but breaks the entire system forcing teams globally to suffer for weeks before a fix is pushed. AWS management does believe in transparency in the slightest. When you tell your manager your having a problem with something or someone, it's always a verbal conversation, never written. Once it's written down, it becomes evidence and they have to enforce it or accept it.

Pros

Very accepting to work as a trans person. Good medical benefits.

Cons

Most people in "leadership" care only about one thing, making themselves look good to higher ups. From what I've seen, the company is quite poorly run on many levels. Very top down decision making process, despite the company's propaganda staring otherwise. Very little input from those doing the job. Managers with way too many reports is common. Low morale and lack of feeling like hard work matters or pays off in multiple orgs I worked in. Very passive aggressive style as a whole, which is maybe better than being aggressively toxic, but oftentimes hard to directly get at a problem because there is no direct accountability. Metrics often equal garbage in garbage out. Worse communication I have ever seen at anywhere I've worked, both inter and intra team. The S team is clueless and seems to be completely out of touch.
