Needs to pay the employees what they are worth

Pros

Great pension and fair 401K match, but need to realize most of us work to meet the daily needs of our family; shelter, food and transportation. Hard to make ends meet.

Cons

Need to offer a competitive wage if they want their employees to stay and make a difference for the member of America First Credit Union. Too many good people have left as they can not afford to work for the wages paid.

Pros

Treats employees and member right, and teaches its employees to do the same. Flexible scheduling and does what is best for both the employee and the company. Pays a large portion of the benefits. Pension is a great thing for those who stay long-term with the company. Employee events are great, and the general feel and culture is enjoyable and helpful. Many internal opportunities.

Cons

Management is slow to change and adjust when needed, pay is generally below average for most positions because of not-for-profit nature of company, some areas of the company don't share in the general culture--which is their loss. Nothing in general to keep employees interested for the short-term so that they want to focus on long-term goals with the company. Less opportunities for true progression in manager positions.

Pros

Company has good values and work life balance. Always felt like my needs were taken care of.

Cons

The pay is pretty low but that's common among credit unions. As I left they were really trying to push more of a bank selling atmosphere but they couldn't offer the same pay. There were several people with college degrees in the department I worked in that were not getting their money back because of the low pay/lack of opportunities to move up and as I got closer to graduation, that made me nervous so I jumped ship and in hindsight it was a good move.
