Going down hill

Pros

Really nice vessels especially the Z drives.

Cons

The company as a whole is heading down hill. For example they've cut out some of our holiday pay. The day your due back on the vessel you get paid half a day as well as the day your due off. Regardless of what time you started work or how much work youve performed those days. For example we work 12 hour days and i came back from my off time to my vessel at 0645 by 0720 i was tanking a barge on dock. we work a 6 on 6 off schedule my watch beginning at 5 and ending at 11. Now from 0645 to 11 am i will not be paid for my work. some im basically worked for free. And the same goes for the last day of my hitch. This company is really expecting alot more work out of its employees but at the same time cutting cost and pay were ever they can. another example. we use to receive engine room pay for maintaining and taking care or the engines and generators on the vessel, well not anymore. they expect you to do that, without the the extra pay now. We use to receive a bonus every six months depending on how the company was doing as far as sales and safety. but now theyve individualized it and made it personal which was great as we thought but of course we thought wrong. for example my bonus every six months if the company was doing good would be about $2700, but now since theyve made it personal, its 1400 annually now. Alot of things are changing with this company and that was only a few that i mentioned. Everything now is to benefit the company NOT the employees and if they keep taking like they are they want have any employees to take from hints as to why we are hiring all across the board right now.

Pros

Different style of life. Can make decent money for more time you spend away from home. You have the ability to meet tons of different people.

Cons

Gone alot. Has no care if someone advances to the wheelhouse or not. You have to pay for your licensing yourself if you plan to advance to the wheelhouse. No PTO or sick days. Recently took away 4 paid holidays. Overtime is only x1.25 not the usual x1.5
