Pros

Work Life Balance Innovative Friendly culture Best place in Consumer Banking

Cons

TOO MUCH internal politics. At a point when you want to get to a Director or VP level, your skills at playing politics become VERY important. This can get very annoying. Amex has a young work force, at least in New York, so if you are not a Director by the time you are about 33 or so, you start feeling a little out of place. The salaries at Amex are usually lower than at other Consumer Banking companies, they compensate for this with their better and more innovative culture. I used to work at Citi and the culture at Amex was a lot better, but they pay less (usually).

Pros

I work as a Home Based Relationship Care Specialist and even though I don't physically see my co-workers the bond is great and my supervisor is so involved in my success and helping me strategize. GREAT opportunities for bonus's and growth in the company if you are focused

Cons

sometimes it can be difficult to be in such a metric based environment - if you want to excel you have to work hard on sales and also great customer service skills. its a big balancing act.

Pros

Sitting on your butt all day.

Cons

Working at AMEX was like being a character in Office Space. It is so bureaucratic and I would find myself twindling my thumbs all day. As a software development intern I literally did nothing. This is not the place to go if you want to experience technical innovation. If you're working in technology, everyone thinks they're better than you. Tech is not prioritized and you will do nothing.
