Pros

- Friendly coworkers - Management positions appear to make high 6 figure salaries

Cons

- Long hours, most of the work is done late in to the evening. Appointments are set at one hour intervals from 2:00-8:00pm at peoples homes. - Extreme wear and tear on your vehicle from driving all over the place frequently. - You have to buy all your own supplies, business cards, gas, etc. Try to get you to write it off as business expense, but there are limits to how much you can claim on taxes. - You have to pay your taxes as a 1099 like a personal business. - They have a highly scripted sales pitch where they want you to convince the person that they can afford something your selling. You have to memorize it and play videos on your laptop at points during the sales pitch to try to convince these people to buy from you. - They want you to join a union when you sign paperwork to work with them. I personally am not a fan of modern day labor unions. They are not all they are cracked up to be. - Possibility of going to dangerous neighborhoods at night to make sales. NOT a good idea this day and age!

Professional environment, but pays commission only

Pros

office culture is nice, upper management is nice

Cons

they pay commission only to insurance agents. So you pay all your gas and phone costs out of your own pocket so you can cover all of the cold calling and driving sometimes hours a day to appointments. You can use the work phone at the office too. When you get a sale, you then get a percentage of that. Hard to balance work and life expenses with the money you make. Although some people make ok money.

Pros

High commission rates. Advancement opportunity although unreasonable timetable

Cons

Way to much emphasis placed on learning a scripted sales pitch instead of teaching about the products you are selling. With the cost of fuel these days driving around the state is very expensive. Way too much deceit during the hiring process. You are told point blank, NO COLD CALLS, as a matter of fact, we have a call room that SCHEDULES your appointments for you. In reality, you collect referrals at the appointments you go to and then call those people with the hope of scheduling an appointment with them. This is a COLD CALL, it doesn't matter if the person who refers them calls them to tell them your calling, it's a COLD CALL. Do you notice how this very argument is contradicting the whole we have a call room who makes the appointments for you thing. These are just a few examples to name a few.
