Pros

Amgen allows a lot of flexibility with your work schedule. Middle management is very aware of their employees strenghts and encourages them to seek out opportunities that will match those strengths as well as provide the employee with an interesting challenge. People who work there are fairly laid back, so it can be a pretty fun place to work. The pay and bonuses are great, to say the least. Everyone down the Admin Coordinator receives a yearly bonus roughly 10-30% of the annual salary, with Directors (maybe EDs) making much more than that (in the range of 70-130% in BONUS on top of their already competitive salaries.

Cons

As nice as it is to work somewhere fun, the "fun" factor seems to get in the way of actually getting work done, which I personally find really annoying. The slackers within the company are generally tolerated well, and they are able to use the dreaded "HR" card too often with little cause. For example, if you tell an employee that she hasn't performed her task, it is not uncommon that the employee may cry then take you to HR for being insensitive. The whole issue can turn into a case about how you treated her rather than the initial issue that she wasn't doing her job. I've never seen HR take action on this type of complaint, but it's certainly possible that they may have to if the circumstances are right based on liberal CA law.

Pros

The benefits I think are pretty good especially compared to other employers I have had experience with. They have a really good 401K program which has a 5 percent match in addition to a 5 percent core contribution. The facility has 2 separate shut downs in addition to the regular allotted vacation time which allows the employee at least 5 weeks off per year. The campus is set up well and their gym is a nice to have as a resource. The end of the year bonuses seemed to be pretty generous. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved in other groups and learn new things.

Cons

There are some difficult personalities that you need to work with. There was a hiring freeze which did not allow for transfer to different departments. In hiring, they seemed to look for the candidate with the most of everything regardless of the position they were filling which lead to getting board quickly. There also seemed to be many positions that shouldn't even be there in the name of efficiency.

Pros

Great time off, great 401 k match, decent health insurance, goood manuracturing training program.

Cons

Terrible management, constant indecision, too much in the way of politics, good old boy network is in place with a friends of upper management filling all the middle management positions. People are very aggressive and a lot of the time for no good reason. If you are an easy going person, this is not the place for you. Management will constantly re-examine their decisions, and you will be asked to drop everything to take care of the newest top priority to the point where it will become a running joke. Management cares more about protecting their personal interests as opposed to doing what is best for the company.
