Pros

Abundance of opportunities to learn, great learning resources, some good people and leaders, remote and flex ways of working,

Cons

Too many processes, too much governance that are slow to make decisions, creativity and out of the box strategic thinking hindered by fear and too many SOPs, hire consultants to improve structure and processes but they only give back what we have already done or talk a lot and say little creating more churn, increasing pockets of toxic leadership that continue to get promoted, absolutely no psychological safety whatsoever!

Pros

Work life balance Flexibility Well thought out projects

Cons

No career growth Lot of tools and processes and SOPs Ton of politics Low pay Unnecessary propaganda and Sr management constant thirst to push company popularity by giving interviews etc but not focusing on critical things. They should understand that popularity is a by product for keeping employees happy company policies

Pros

pretty good salary and benefits, nice campus (Thousand Oaks headquarters)

Cons

Constantly changing focus and reorganization, lots of wasted effort and money on aborted initiatives, lots of corporate "speak" without real change/action/commitment. Most critically ---- and what lead to my ultimate departure ---- a corporate re-org left me with a new manager who was determined to eliminate me and other team members. Despite a year of best efforts to improve the situation (along with futile efforts to enlist help from HR), leaving Amgen was the only option. Some people seem to thrive at Amgen. Most coworker friends I know personally have lots of negative experiences at Amgen and ultimately have left because of seasonal corporate restructuring or other impedances to growth and advancement. Leaving Amgen was the best decision I ever made and on the other side has been tremendous growth, opportunity, and fulfillment -- in terms of career, finances, and quality of life.
