Pros

Great work environment! This is my second employment stint at Amgen. There is really no other place like Amgen. You will be surrounded by some of the most intelligent, hardworking, ethical, and nice co-workers that can be found. The company fosters great science, importance on a 360 view of decisions, and involvement of all. It also has a great environment outside of work. Whether you are interested in sports activity, hiking, cooking, or what ever . . . you will find others in the company that share that interest. Living in Southern California is also a big plus!

Cons

The cost of living is high in SoCal. The compensation is competitive, but not over the top. The company, the environment, the people, the weather is why you should work for Amgen.

Pros

great 401k benefit (10% full match), 2 shutdown weeks plus 3 wks vacation to start, lots of resources and training opportunities

Cons

depending on where you are, culture can be difficult if not downright dysfunctional; headquarters location in Thousand Oaks not desirable unless you eat, drink and breathe Amgen; seems to have lost it's focus as biotech

Pros

Overall, typical culture of big pharma with lots of experienced employees. Most are transplanted from East Coast or Chicago and company has nice benefit package and transition programs.

Cons

A little formal. Could potentially cut down on frequency and length of meetings.
