      Unreasonable expectations

      Pros

      Good pay and benefits, however, these had been diminishing over time. Great vacation time benefit if you feel you can take it. One week summer shut-down in summer and winter holiday season are very nice.

      Cons

      Expectations are almost impossible for some. Some top executives do not treat those below them with respect. Amgen used to tout a list of values but those are not mentioned anymore and don't seem to be applied to top executives.

      Pros

      Pay is good but certain associate levels of scientist are hourly. Get ready to risk your life so you can get paid when there is a state of emergency. Benefits are starting to dwindle.

      Cons

      Toxic culture where cronyism reigns supreme and only those protected benefit. Abominable managers who don't care about their reports, no career development, abusive managers are protected by HR and the abused are targeted, laziness and sloppy science. All senior leadership claim they have no power and none of them can make a decision on their own. Women, minorities and non PhDs are generally treated like sub humans and are denied access to internal meetings.

      Pros

      Incredible products, wonderful pipeline, does good things for humanity. Seems very honest in drug trials and "let the data speak" mentality even when results mean that their drug doesn't work and they just flushed $200MM down the toilet.

      Cons

      Can't get out of their own way. Horrible current CIO. First they had wonderful in house IT staff, but some genius decided that it would be more cost effective to outsource. Half the service at twice the cost. Now insourcing, but done by uneducated low cost body vendors.
