Decent overall

Pros

Decent pay- well above minimum but from what I understand it’s on the lower end for insurance Outstanding benefits- you earn extra paid days off just for working your scheduled shift on minor holidays so major holidays are essentially triple time if you include the earned PTO. 401k match, affordable and decent healthcare, dental, vision, HSA. You have sick time and vacation time from day one Coworkers are all willing to help you at any time

Cons

Gets difficult to hear your callers at busier times of the day Often times the managers don’t answer you right away leaving you to either put the customer on a long hold or have awkward silence Extremely strict about timeliness- 1 minute late clocking in is LATE Some schedules really stink, split shifts and working all weekend

Terrible Culture

Pros

Genuinely good co-workers, but this will change as the company is rapidly losing anyone that is any good.

Cons

The culture here just sucks. I used to think that the company genuinely cared about the employees, but that has changed. You can just forget the pre-pandemic reviews. Clearly most of the recent ones are all negative. We have lost a large number of people in a VERY short amount of time. It is largely due to the company ending WFH flexibility, and they will lose more after YE bonuses are paid. I don't think the company understands how the labor market works. You can't take benefits away from employees just as there has been an explosion in job openings and many competitors are offering WFH as a full time option. For once employees have the power, and the company just doesn't care or doesn't get it. You lose your best people first because they have the most power in the job market. What you are left with are the underperformers, and this will prove to be a pivotal moment in Amica's history if they do not quickly change course on this policy. It does not seem likely that they are going to. Management has recently hosted discussions and basically said "well, everyone is losing talent not just us". Literally by definition that is not true. If we are losing talent someone else is gaining it. Also, what kind of attitude is that? Is that indicative of great culture? The other response was that "we only want people here that want to be here and value our culture". Take a look around, no one cares about the culture, it isn't a differentiator. Further, culture isn't something that requires four walls, it is woven into the fabric of the organization. Do you think it is good for the culture to force employees back into the office and take away work-life balance? Is that good for engagement? How do you think that will affect interactions with our customers? Will our service levels suffer? And let me tell you about the real Amica culture. Its a highly bureaucratic organization in which promotions are given out based on how warm your seat is, not how much value you create. The company is extremely resistant to change and we are bleeding policies in addition to employees. Just all around Amica is in decline, and it starts with the broken culture. It's disappointing because it doesn't have to be this way. It's poor management.

Pros

Honestly there are not many pros about this company anymore. When I first started the pay was okay and the company provided great benefits and paid time off. Other than that over the years things are getting worse by the day with no improvement in sight. I used to love my job and be excited to come to work to see my coworkers and help people during times of need. Now everyday I dread going to work.

Cons

Amica tells their employees that they want our opinion and that they want us to feel heard, but when we do voice our opinion and provide feedback on what can be done to improve the workplace for the nothing is done to change the outdated ways of how the company is run. Pay is extremely low compared to other insurance companies. And employees are not compensated for the disaster of a company they are working extremely hard for. The company has lost a large number of employees in a short time period. The management and upper higher management that have the ability to make a difference have done nothing to try and keep the employees. Amica is losing all of the employees that are amazing at their job and act as though they are replaceable. The fact of the matter is that the upper management doesn't recognize that they are losing valuable employees that made Amica a great company. Now that these employees are gone, the employees that are left are over worked, under paid, and under appreciated for what they are being put through. This is causing the employees Amica has left to stop caring about their job and want to give up. The company is unwilling to change their old school ways of doing business. Covid caused Amica to have to send their employees home to work for over a year. While at home all of the claims representatives and sales representative stepped up to the plate and worked as hard as possible to make sure they continued performing at 100% All of the employees proved that working from home is possible and the numbers showed that working from home was better for the company and their employees. Customer surveys were higher than ever and productivity increased. This being said, Amica refuses to allow their employees to stay working from home which has caused many employees to quit, retire, and company morale is at an all time low. No matter how many times employees reach out to their immediate supervisors requesting permanent work from home positions and no matter how hard they work to prove that employees can make working from home an asset, the company refuses to allow permanent work from home positions. It is getting so bad that every Amica employee that is left is talking about finding a new job because they can't stand working for a company that will not take the advice from the people on the front line doing the day to day hard work. Claims volume is high because there are less claims reps taking claims. Call volume is higher than ever because of the lack of employees and many employees have complained that they are not making enough money for what they put up with on a day to day basis. Employees aren't able to get caught up and are constantly behind causing the Amica customers to be upset and constantly complain about the service they are provided. Amica is "known for the best customer service" but with how the company is going, it is impossible to provide the level of customer service that Amica expects them to provide. Thks leaves employees feeling defeated after every shift and leaves the customers unhappy with their insurance especially because Amica is more expensive than any other insurance carrier. Something needs to change, but the upper management refuses to admit there is an issue and refuse to listen to the employees that work hard to try and keep going despite being miserable at work. Amica refuses to make changes to the company thay would keep the employees they have left with them and keep their customers willing to pay high premiums for the service they expect. The company doesn't care about the mental health of their employees and when someone mentions that they are struggling mentally they are told maybe it is time to part ways rather than coming up with a plan to help their employees overcome the tough times. Employees of 20 plus years have left because they are not longer happy with the company and would rather retire than put up with the mental stress the job is causing them.
