Pros

Good benefits, okay pay, enhanced 401(k), profit sharing

Cons

The company has rapidly declined in terms of employee satisfaction. When I started, the company seemed great. Everyone was so helpful, employees seemed content with their jobs, and management was focused on your development as an employee rather than hitting metrics from higher up. Over the course of my career, the company shifted to being very numbers focused in correlation to growing too fast with no staff to service the additional policies. We started to have 7-8 reps leave in the span of 2 months, and management was like a revolving door. It felt like they were sacrificing the happiness of their employees by trying to hit ever-increasing goals set by higher up’s who have no clue what we did day to day. Things quickly declined even further when the pandemic hit, with the company desperately trying to cram us all back in the office as soon as humanly possible, despite work from home being wildly successful. I did genuinely enjoy my time for the first 1-2 years, but between what I listed above, the very rigid time off policies, absolutely no flexible scheduling, resistance to change in any capacity, and career stagnation in the branch, I made the decision to leave the company. For me, the clear sign to move on was when we received an email about a $2k bonus for any employee willing to stay until the end of 2021. When employee retention is so bad that you have to bribe people into staying, it’s best to get out while you can.

Pros

I cried my first day on the job. There was a zoom meeting that day to celebrate the retirement an employee who had worked at Amica for over 30 years. The outpouring of love and friendship and wonderful memories that each person shared about the employee who was retiring was touching and heartfelt. I remember thinking how wonderful it would be to experience this when I retire. I believe that Amica genuinely cares about their employees and does everything to make sure they are well cared for and are well equipped to do their jobs successfully. Whenever I have a question or need help with something I can reach out to anyone in the office, whether it is another rep, manager or even a claims person. They encourage people to be the best person they can be and recognize the smallest of accomplishments. In addition to commissions and bonuses there are incentives, recognition for a job well done, praise and encouragement. This Is is something you don’t see very often in companies today. It’s more along the lines of “ we don’t need to complement you on a job well done that’s what your paycheck is for“. Doing your job well because that’s what you’re paid to do is one thing, going above and beyond your job responsibilities and going the extra mile because you’re made to feel like you matter to the company and your hard work does not go unnoticed is another thing entirely! On a less emotional level, Benefits are amazing, requests for personal/medical time off are reviewed and approved promptly, training is extensive and thorough and performance reviews are done on a regular basis.

Cons

None that I have experienced.

Pros

Friendly coworkers, profit sharing, 401K

Cons

Salary is appx 5% less on average compared to other insurance companies. They tell you their salaries are in line with other companies, but they aren’t. Do your research people. Heavy workload, unrealistic expectations. Very limited overtime, yet they push you to work on holidays. High turnover with management. Supervisors and Team Leads are not on the same page. Each one will tell you to do your job differently. They are not up to date with technology. The computer system is a mess and the “soft phone” system is a disaster. This in itself makes getting the heavy workload done impossible. Working remotely should be more accessible. We’ve done it for over a year and the company is still standing. Forcing employees back to the office because of the “Amica Culture” is ridiculous. News flash....Employees don’t care about the “Amica Culture” The amount of money this company pays out in overhead to keep us in office compared to the amount of money the company would save by keeping us working remotely is a no brainer. Do the math. Take that savings and increase our salary. Do you like being overworked and underpaid? Do you like being pushed to work holidays? Do you like working with outdated technology? Do you like high turnover with management? Do you like supervisors and team leads that aren’t on the same page? Do you like being forced to work in office when working remotely is possible? If your answer is yes, then Amica is the place for you!
