Pros

- Benefits. - Vacation time. - Good to start career but not to stay.

Cons

A lot of things are wrong in this company, but here are a few (each don't even cover the full extent of it either) - * Favoritism - it's REALLY bad, a lot of useless people get hired because they know someone but have no idea how to do their job. I have seen a lot of good employees get passed on promotions and those promotions given to people who should get fired but don't because they are friends or son/daughter of someone else in the company. These same people later on get lazy and eveyone else needs to cover for them (even more). It's frustrating. * Bad management - Too many lazy people and no one says anything. Amica over work their best workers while others just sit there doing basically nothing. * Company culture - it's bad. It's the "Amica Way" or the highway, even if it's wrong. This is not a place for forward thinking. It's very antiquated, among other things. * Tenure mentality - people who have been in the company for a lot of years usually have this mentality that they are untouchable. It's like they can do no wrong. They get lazy and a lot don't know how to use a computer that well or care to learn. * No accountability for bad employees. * They over work you without a salary change to reflect on new responsibilities. I was giving supervisor-like responsibilities and have been performing them for about a year and a couple of months now. Management is really happy with how I have handled things blah blah blah. I have asked for a salary/title change numerous times without anything hapening. Last time I was told I would have to wait 1 to 2 more years for it to go through but meanwhile I'm still to perform all supervisor-like responsibilities I was giving on top of all my regular job duties like I have been doing in the past year.......... I'm not the only one this has happened to either. This company is a joke. There are a lot more things wrong with Amica but I have already made this long enough. I'm planing on leaving within the year anyway.

Pros

Good benefits. Decent pay. Amica treats customers well, although premiums are extremely exorbitant. There are also some very caring and professional claims representatives, however, there are some who should be in another field as they do not care about people.

Cons

Unreasonable workload. Incompetent supervisors. Extreme micro management. As stated above, their insurance premiums are excessively high and unfortunately, there are some claims representatives who are uncaring and very unprofessional.

Pros

Benefits are great, training is exceptional, pay is decent, co-workers are friendly, clientele is mostly nice, they pay for training and for licensure. Great way to start in the industry and see if it's for you before taking the plunge and going into business for yourself.

Cons

Overtime is expected, sick time is unusable, major micromanagement, high sales expectations with "bonuses" instead of solid "commissions" so that they can say their agents don't work off commission, which makes it look like they are less biased to the clientele, but it also means the pay is more commensurate with a CSR than an insurance agent, and little opportunity for advancement. Zero flexibility with scheduling, no part-time positions and the way the bonus structure is rigged, the same agents get the best opportunities for new business and sales (there's a separate queue where some agents get only new business calls, so they get the most sales and it's set up so that the people with the most sales get into that queue, so it's a vicious cycle) that's extremely difficult to crack through. There is only opportunity for advancement if you can spend 7 weeks in Rhode Island and then be willing to immediately move wherever they send you, so only young single people get promoted to management rather than seasoned agents who have been on the front lines and know the business. The majority of new underwriting managers have no previous experience in the industry and are fresh out of college. They only get that 7 weeks training before being assigned, so there is a major learning curve in management and very little consistency among the answers you might get depending on which manager you go to. Upper management is out of touch with the front lines.
