Pros

I loved my teammates and co-workers. We had a shared misery that we could embrace. 401k is good, 2 free cases of beer per month.

Cons

IF you only read one review before deciding to apply at AB, read this one. You will HATE it. Long hours, including evening and weekends. Each year they reduce benefits. No raises and difficult to achieve bonus plan. Inept managers. The top level people don't know what they are doing. They have no idea how to build brands or market products. All they do is acquire other successful brewers. Yearly layoffs don't help either. Again, avoid AB like the plague.

Treating ex SAB management very badly

Pros

Nothing at this point in time

Cons

ABInbev took over SAB a year ago, and various new positions as per ABinbev org structures were advertised. People were told that final salaries could not be given for these new jobs. Many people took on new jobs, with greater workload and much higher responsibilities with anticipation of better pay. In some instances, some people were persuaded to take on new roles. Now, the new salaries have been released. Shock and disappointment everywhere, as the ABInbev market related salary (MRS) is way less than what people are currently earning, in some instances by up to 50%. For some people who've taken on new jobs, their MRS is less than that of their old job, yet they are doing more work!! ABInbev has benchmarked salaries against the FMCG sector and say this is the reason for the drop. This doesn't make sense - skills such as accounting, human resources, IT, operations management are not specific to any sector. People will move. It's not like South Africa is wonderfully endowed with skilled people who step in at a moment's notice. As South African law states that salaries can never be dropped, salaries will not drop - but no increases for many people for a good few years.

A True Corporate Machine

Pros

Compensation is good compared to other companies. If you get to higher levels with LTIs and can hang on until those fest it can be very lucrative. With such a lean organization (and high turnover) there is an ability to move very quickly.

Cons

Due to the organization being lean it results in a very tough work life balance. Also due to the rapid movement of employees it results in a fair amount of false experience that leads to poor leadership in the middle tier. Very hypocritical with their cultural principles. The "healthy conflict" mostly turns into true conflict and harsh environment.
