Pros

I was lucky enough to work for August the III before the company sold. It was a great place to work before the buy-out.

Cons

Horrible treatment after the buy-out. Kept getting excellent reviews but no advancement opportunity. Had to hold your breath every November to January to see if you were getting cut. More work, same pay. Watched the new company hire new grads so they could pay them significantly less to do the same jobs for those who they forced to retire.

Pros

Lots of long standing employees in Brazil and LATAM, where it is a lead employer. Good retention for young people, who seem to enjoy working there.

Cons

Male dominated, employment centered in LATAM. Very focused on results and bonuses are hard to achieve. Can be difficult to enter the company from outside, particularly at high levels, as they prioritize the ones who have been there and breed generalists as opposed to specialists. Difficult to achieve bonuses and while much of this is due to the rigor of the results, there are also components of comp that that are more based on favoritism.

Pros

On the whole AB is a fine company, great benefits, fun brands, lots of opportunity for development

Cons

AB systematically incentivizes its best and brightest to leave with unnecessary layers of bureaucracy and cost controls. For example, you can’t increase salary by more than 15% in any one move, even if you jumped a full band or more. Senior/executive advancement is a war of attrition and leaves us with uninspiring leadership (most of which still white males) in many areas. AB is a great blocking and tackling monopolist, is terrible at building brands or spotting trends early. You may not feel inspired by the ambition or modern capabilities of those around you. The industry is 30 years behind the times. 3-tier system creates a lack of control over the product. Everything must be viewed through the politics of wholesalers and retailers, not to mention internal divided among Regions and brand teams etc. It is quite frustrating over time, and you realize the bulk of your time is spent on internal selling.
