Thank you for taking the time say such nice things about Appian. We hope you'll learn to love Reston Town Center the way we do -- for walking to lunch, getting errands done, easy commute, ice skating, renting out the movie theater for Star Wars...

Pros

Hard working team. Good software.

Cons

There is an overall mindset of faking appointment setting for the sake of appointment setting.. So no real pipeline generation. BDR management is an old boys club. A hell in this modern times… Company culture is really encroaching. there is little respect for individuals, BDRs feel major pressure to perform to unrealistic goals, and there is a micro management culture- driven by fake metrics.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I disagree with your characterization of the Business Development team. I know it's a difficult job but more than half the BDRs met the goals you said were "unrealistic." Three female BDRs were promoted last quarter for real revenue generation so I don't know what "old boys club" or lies are holding them back. If you were being closely managed, it was probably because you weren't meeting expectations. Let's hope 2016 goes better for you.

Pros

Engineering department really does Agile development well. Many places call themselves "Agile" but few actually are - and Appian's Engineering department actually does it really well. Changes to the organizational structure of the department made during 2015 have removed a great deal of the impediments to continuing to do Agile well as the scale increases. From the CEO level to the entry level (even interns), everyone values the right things. Delivering the best value to customers is still the priority, but other values like Generosity, Teamwork, Innovation, Empowerment, and Excellence are actively sought after in candidates, fostered by managers, and publicly recognized and praised by the company & department in a variety of ways.

Cons

PTO is less than industry standard. Pay scales at higher levels haven't been increased as quickly as entry level (which are excellent), causing some salary compression. Quarterly Release Cycle has become an obvious bottleneck now that teams have become very proficient at Agile development.
