After receiving glowing performance reviews for 5 years along with large financial rewards, including a huge retention stock grant, I was suddenly let go after taking a medical leave of absence. I can't say I was surprised, the team I was on often started replacing people while they were on medical leave. The HR team would discuss openly whether they believed people's medical conditions or whether they thought they were faking it. Many times they would ask my recruiting team to search for replacements for people on protected leave. They would then manufacture reasons to get rid of them once they returned and employee relations would support this by conducting bogus "investigations". I was a victim of this myself eventually. You cannot trust HR at this company.
