Pros

Lots of work to do, flexible with PTO. Interesting technology.

Cons

Limited professional growth, biased towards certain people. No real HR department to handle disputes or employee concerns. Overload employees with no incentive for extra hours.

Pros

Strong early-career mentorship from a very intelligent and capable manager Exposure to a wide range of technologies including Linux, Docker, AWS, networking, cloud networking, cloud security, APIs, and developer tools. Learned a lot quickly through hands-on work and close guidance at the beginning. Manager was technically sharp and genuinely invested in helping me grow early on. Fast-paced environment that accelerates learning for motivated engineers.

Cons

Managerial bandwidth became increasingly limited as leadership responsibilities grew. Mentorship and guidance dropped off significantly over time due to workload and stress. Lack of consistent feedback or clear performance communication as expectations changed. When performance issues arose, they were not clearly communicated or addressed early. Termination felt abrupt and attributed to business reasons rather than discussed performance gaps.

Pros

1) The team is hardworking, welcoming, and fosters a family-like atmosphere. 2) You can gain valuable experience if you're willing to put in the effort, though most skills are mastered within 2-3 years. 3) The dress code is somewhat relaxed; professional yet casual attire like clean khaki shorts and a dress shirt or polo is acceptable. 4) The company provides a laptop for your use. 5) There are many talented individuals here who offer excellent advice and suggestions. Building relationships with them is highly valuable, as they provide great support and knowledge that can be beneficial for personal and professional growth.

Cons

1) Work Location Flexibility (sorta): Although the contract allows for remote work, there have been instances where employees were required to come into the office without a contract update or additional pay. It's important to thoroughly review all agreements. 2) Insufficient Guidance and Training: Employees may face challenges due to limited training. For example, recent resources like the troubleshooting guide for Sales Engineers do not fully cover all aspects of their responsibilities. 3) Limited Financial and Career Growth: Salary increases can be slow and delayed. Despite requests for raises and promises made, it can take considerable time to see any adjustments, often accompanied by repeated justifications for the delays. 4) Financial Management Issues: There are concerns about the management of financial resources, including delays in reimbursements and procurement of office equipment. The absence of a CFO may contribute to these issues, as seen with delays in replacing damaged equipment. 5) Startup Mentality: The company may prioritize rapid product releases over addressing subsequent issues, resulting in Sales Engineers dealing with customer complaints. Other teams may be less exposed to direct customer feedback, leading to a disconnect between customer experiences and product development. 6) Communication Challenges: There may be coordination issues between departments, causing inefficiencies and misunderstandings. 7) High Workload with Low Compensation: The role can be demanding, with long hours and relatively low pay. Despite assurances of manageable workloads, employees may face extensive responsibilities with limited additional support.
