Pros

Big company, lots of training

Cons

1) Poor management --> all has the manager, director titles but you 2) No freedom of expression --> doing lots of meaningless work because your boss asks you to do and you have no choices to say no 3) Only managers are being valued but not working level engineers --> lots of engineers earn no credit for all they've done 4) Long working hours, some even worse than 996 (from 9 am to 9 pm, 6 days a week) --> on call 24hous even at midnight 5) Very hard to get a promotion 6) Not diverse --> most are Indian managers --> they know how to boast to upper managers and the customers but will not get things done.

Pros

Great technology, amazing colleagues. Good boot camp for new graduate.

Cons

When you get an offer from DDP, please read below and ask yourself: is this the workstyle/lifestyle you want? Other than what you can contribute to the job, what you can get from the job? If you take this offer, where will you be at in 5 years not only in your career but also in your life? Hiring managers will not tell you all the truth during interview, and you definitely need some research before join this department. Long hours makes this job one of the lowest hourly pay tech job in Silicon Valley. No work life balance at all. Managers expect you to work on day, nights and weekends and take it for granted. Very toxic culture. The salary itself is very low in bay area, and I am talking about a salary which cannot cover the basic cost of living under crazy inflation. If you have a family, make sure your husband/wife have a decent salary otherwise you will be struggling. Be prepared to sacrifice your family time and bring back home a poor salary. Bonus is ok, but stock is truly a joke. Have never heard of any stock plan worse than AMAT. With little money and time, it is hard to achieve goals in your life. In terms of career, there is little chance to advance. Process/Mechanical engineers are just a bunch of PhD/Master doing test engineer/technician kind of work. Even you become a director/manager, the vision and skillset are very limited. What you can get from this job will be most likely benefit this organization, but not much for yourself, and the reward is way too low compare to the effort needed. Management only care about technical deliverables. No one cares about the health and loyalty of working level people, no people management, and workflow/planning is in chaos.

Pros

Just a paycheck, nothing else.

Cons

Long work hours, no personal life; 10 hours a day is normal and you need to reply emails and text at night. 4 hours meeting everyday force you to work in the late evening. Low morale across engineers since something is wrong with the culture. Managers keep pushing without reasonable deadline. Reward is really low for the high intensity work; pay is low in bay area, and the stuff learned from this company is not that useful for other industries. In addition, managers always ask engineers to think but there is no autonomy and no time to think through problems. Even if you think, no one will care what you think. So many directors and managers pulled you to different directions, sometimes they have no idea what they are doing.
