      Decent experience, especially for working during peak COVID times

      You'll get high level experience early on as just an associate that you might never even get as a senior at big 4

      Cons

      Wasn't much in the way of development or mentorship. Just get in where you fit in and do what your told. Like all firms your mileage may vary depending on what managers you end up working with.

      Public Accounting Option that isn’t a Corporate Prison

      Pros

      Great benefits Great pay (for public, but industry pay for accountants is low… but that’s another debate for another day) Work life balance (for accounting. You are going to need to dedicate some time during tax season, but that’s a given. It’s not bad compared to other public accounting firms). Substantial company holidays and PTO Great paternity and maternity leave Meals provided during tax season Great people, relationships I will value for the rest of my life Fair performance metrics (none of that billable vs nonbillable profitability metrics nonsense that many firms have (you have your work and you get it done). Even as big of a company as Aprio is, I had interactions with the CEO even just as a staff accountant. Really kind guy. Client interaction early on. They don’t treat you like a child at an adult day care that has to prove yourself worthy of client interaction. Work from home days. Aprio understands that when you hire the right people and treat them well, working from home doesn’t make people “less productive.”

      Cons

      You won’t be as well rounded. You’re put into something specialized, so you’re limited to that specialization. Lot of responsibility early on, but this can be a good thing because it helps you grow.
