Pros

Hands on problem solving, good pay, freedom to go about solutions how you like, good people, managers are not involved unless they need to be (no micromanaging). People that have been there for a long time are very knowledgeable about their areas.

Cons

No room for movement. There were only two higher positions above me before the plant manager. They try to say that there is a lot of room for growth, but I don't see it unless you switch between many plants. Union is somewhat difficult to deal with at times. Bonus program is VERY hit or miss (sometimes it barely hits triple digits, sometimes it's almost 1k). A lot of old timers there that can be stubborn, and the pay/vacation time is very old to be able to get more. Getting called in the middle of the night and working the occasion 30 hour day gets old.

Pros

pays well if you are experienced and can negotiate it upfront. Entry level and interns are treated very well, better than those that have been there for a few years.

Cons

Poor management, cares nothing about employees' personal or professional development. HR will flat out lie to you when they say you have all kinds of opportunity to move into different positions. Once you are in a department, that's where you stay. Do not disagree with management, or make suggestions, you will be labeled a problem employee and a troublemaker. Union runs the place, management has no backbone and they will not stand behind you. Sinking ship, stay away.
