Pros

Very talented people and great, unique technical capabilities. Decades as an industry leader under the Alcoa name.

Cons

While it was a great place to work for most of my career the culture has declined in the past two years to the point of barely recognizing as the same place. Uncertainty and pressures to deliver short-term goals have driven questionable behavior and judgement with some peers and leaders. Lack of focus, unclear strategy, lack of long-term vision and a culture of distrust are hurting engagement and employee commitment. Loosing considerable good technical talent on a regular basis.

Pros

I don’t work here anymore and can share just how bad this company is to the world, without fear of internal retaliation. There are some decent people who still care.

Cons

Unstable and uncommitted corporate leadership and site leadership. Company needs 10’s, if not 100’s of millions in upgrades to obsolete equipment, obsolete financial systems, decaying and depressing office spaces at manufacturing sites, and commitment to employee welfare, yet the CEO decided to spend $700 million buying back shares. Most leaders have been with the company 15-20+ years and have no perspective on how horrible this company is to work for compared to just about anywhere else. No opportunity for modern flexible work arrangements. Raises got cancelled for all non-managers despite the company having a profitable 2018. It’s now damn near impossible to get sorely needed capital spend approved, because sites and divisions can’t make final decisions. Unrealistic growing revenue goals because we can’t get necessary capital improvements. No opportunity for employees to provide feedback
