Pros

Spectacular view of the Hollywood Hills, rarified atmosphere in ultra modern Century City. Catered lunches, wonderful coffee. Exposure to all phases of business (dys) function.

Cons

Strongly discouraged to share information, employees are expected to put in long hours re-inventing the wheel as a substitute for any vision of how information systems should be built. My experience with line managers were that they were extremely arrogant and dim-witted and have neither grasp of bank instruments or knowledge of project management. Testing consisited of putting code into production and cursing. Silos of parochial knowledge.

Pros

Large firm with good overall reputation; will likely benefit from private credit Access to co-invest in co-mingled funds (Credit, RE, PE, secondaries) Good comp packages relative to market/good perks High focus on DEI though with little to show for it in PE

Cons

Thoughts specific to PE: Terrible leadership/partner group - lost or fired a considerable number of people over the years, best partners are gone including recent departure of the Co-Head of PE Healthcare team in PE is a dumpster fire Declining fund size given the investment committee's portfolio construction for the 2017 vintage fund Good junior culture; rough partner group (with 2 exceptions) Unclear strategy or at least they don't follow the strategy they articulate - marketing materials show desperation to invent a differentiating factor Ops team is nothing more than a talking point for fundraising; they have little to no trust/engagement within the broader PE team

Pros

Good compensation, great front office and great company in general

Cons

Favoritism abounds on the operation teams with people been blamed from the ones at the top. It’s happened to everyone at some point and does not help create a culture of transparency or collaboration. Just avoid for your sanity and health. I heard it isn’t as bad on other teams so maybe try those.
