I have a lot to say, but the main points are that there is not and will never be work from home, incompetent employees/managers face no punishment, employees are seen as resources, not human, the CEO is awful to work with. Years ago, the one and only layoff happened. That was a bad time. The company handled it very poorly. A lot of employees left after that and morale was very low. Still though, I genuinely liked working there. I really wanted to work at ARGO until I retired. HR, lower management, and general employees really try hard to keep the atmosphere positive and show employees they're appreciated. It's heartbreaking to see because these are kind people genuinely trying to help others through the act of being employed at this company and putting up with completely unreasonable, irresponsible, and absurd deadlines and workloads. When high-level managers over large swaths of people leave, they aren't replaced. Their work is moved to whatever schmuck is still there easily doubling or tripling their workload. Same goes for regular managers, and now, employees. Your reward for loyalty is more work with, usually, the same pay. Also, greater scrutiny. Numerous, but not all c-suite executives don't care about the strain this puts on everyone because "good people don't leave ARGO." The ones that do care are fairly helpless due to the CEO, a true toddler of a man who would rather throw temper tantrums than solve problems or better the company. Most people in positions of power dread dealing with him and bend to his will to avoid getting screamed at and insulted. What you're left with is overworked employees who have to gamble on what work to do and what work not to do. There's no direction, no sympathy, and no help. People are resources to be used and disposed of. This has also created an issue where employees now have to manage things that are a manager's job or work in areas they have no experience in. There is no training. Knowledge often did and does walk out the door with employees. Also, there's a lot of lying and cya in the year of 2021. You can't believe much of anything your told. Bringing witnesses or getting things in writing doesn't stop this because when cornered, some employees will plead ignorance or gaslight as many people as they can. The sheer scale of emotional manipulation I saw this year was deeply upsetting. It's also very hard to get fired at ARGO, so this behavior can continue for weeks, months, or years. This is especially true when employee numbers are down and the workload is high. While ARGO has the capability to allow employees to work from home and did during the pandemic, they don't like it and do not permit employees to work from home unless you somehow fall into a magical loophole. Even things like home repairs aren't a good enough reason to work from home. I hope things change one day because they have numerous smart, driven, and talented people working there. At its state upon my exit, I wouldn't be surprised if ARGO burns every good employee out. I genuinely hope all the good people leave ARGO and find jobs somewhere more stable.
