Pros

Great way to pay for housing - IF you are super-driven, can be lots of fun

Cons

Advertised as a part time job, but full time is expected. You are expected to fully participate in all school activities while maintaining a 3.0 gpa or above. As a CA, your duties include late night rounds, office work, attending games, rallies, community meetings, meeting with residents, conducting on-campus activities for residents, making sure your residents attend games, rallies and functions mentioned above. Although this can be a lot of fun, you are expected to maintain this level of activity at all times, including during finals, mid terms, and your school work.

Not bad for a university.

Pros

Very community driven and inclusive. Usually have flexible work arrangements with outstanding benefits for both employee and dependents. Centralized location with lots of shops and restaurants near by for lunch and after work happy hours with co-workers.

Cons

The pay is usually CONSIDERABLY less than what you would make in private industry, and many of the research positions are contract hire only. Chances for advancement are usually stilted without a Ph.D., but they offer a joke degree of Doctorate in Higher Education that can fill that gap and allow you to progress to higher positions. The degree costs $25/semester for employees, so why not?
