      Offers opportunity to work with professors and students with a wide range of interests. Excellent environment to work without the burdens of a rigid corporate culture.

      Cons

      Limited growth and promotion opportunities in funded grant world. Most research positions are soft money and based on limited time grants. This results in less job security than at a corporation.

      Pros

      It is a nobel profession with lot of benefit to society. The timing of work is not very restrictive as in people can work very late.

      Cons

      The Low salary is a well known drawback of universities. THere is a lot of focus on paper writing than commercial applications.
