Pros

Expensive offices and lots of pretence from leadership that you are special to work for them, lots of ego

Cons

The firm unfortunately has way too many levels of leadership who don’t actually create work, they are administrators and bean counters, in the 20 years I’ve worked for arup I have experienced many periods of redundancies on average every 2-3 years, the top heavy leadership and board are always safe. All the pressure is on the shoulders of mid grades who regularly work weekends and evenings to actually create and deliver work for clients whilst enabling lower grades to learn and gain valuable experience. Arup promote staff ownership to recruits, that’s not true the board own everything and give you a profit share which is weighted job grade, ie they can buy another house, while the rest may be able to take their kids away for a special day out!
