Pros

Arup has so many pros. For one, they are trust-owned which means they have much more say and decision making power in the projects we work on because we don't have to answer to shareholders that only care about profit. Arup really cares about the ethics of the projects they work on. They also put their money where their mouth is in terms of sustainable development. They are serious about sustainability and don't cut corners, which feels really fulfilling as an employee because I can be so proud of the work I do. The other main pro of Arup is that they are really supportive of their employees. They want you to do the work you love, so as you progress through your career, they help you develop skills you're interested in and support your individual pathway to success. If you're interested in switching teams, they support that. If you're interested in moving locations and transferring offices, they support that too. They really want you to be doing what you love and will help you get there. The best thing about Arup is its people. Everyone here cares about the world, cares about their work, and cares about each other. People are treated like people here, and not just employees or sources of revenue. The people are diverse and Arup is a progressive and supportive employer. Their DEI (or EDI) groups are loved and fulfilling. Additionally, Arup has fantastic benefits along with very on par salary. They don't pay as well as other engineering industries or consulting, but they are directly in line with other similar companies that do the same thing as them. The work life balance is great too. You work a normal 40-hour week and are never forced to work overtime. You can work overtime if you want, but no one will ever make you. Overall, I absolutely love it here at Arup and hope to stick around for a long time to come.

Cons

Arup is a really large company which means that it can feel a bit corporate sometimes. If you're the type of person that likes start-up environments or small teams, then Arup might be a bit of learning curve for you. Communication is important because they often work on very large projects, which can get messy sometimes if you don't love working with a team. They also only work on certain types of projects sometimes - for example, in the building sector they really only work on commercial buildings, so if you're interested in small, residential projects, Arup probably isn't for you.
