Pros

Good benefits. Some people are very nice. (The rose among the thorns)

Cons

At Assurant, someone in the Canadian Marketing team is laid off about every quarter. One manager once told me that a company is like a sports team and needs to keep the talent fresh. I agree, however some managers abuse this opportunity to service their own agenda. One of the Marketing managers seems to fire capable individuals and replaces them with former colleagues and friends; these individuals are also not always better qualified. Nepotism is alive and well at Assurant. Ass kissing will get you ahead there. I am immensely surprised that the President, a seemingly nice guy, allows this to happen.

Pros

When i joined this firm had some scope to perform good work and improve yourself...Now all those days are gone and all you see here is politics ...

Cons

There are 2 class of people here...People who work hard (very few in number and unfortunately not in the buddy list of the top management) and People who hardly work and take credit for all the work done by the class 1 and move ahead .The class 2 crowd is heavy these days in Assurant and assurant solutions management blindly take sides with those people. End of the day, lot of hardworking people are leaving the company or let go by the management (layoffs, conflict in work etc). This is the general trend across all departments and business units. No fairness in recognitions and promotions. You can see a lot of very junior level people playing the role of managers just because the directors "like" them. Unfortunately these are the directors who don't know what they are doing and just want a tier 2 who say YeS to all their orders. These managers make the life of their counterparts miserable as they are very well aware that counterparts are better qualified . This place has one of th0se unique Organization reporting structure (which change almost weekly or monthly for sure) i have ever come across in corporate US.

Pros

One of the pros here is that you can move up in the company, to a certain point, without a college degree where most other companies would require a degree. Pay is competitive and fair. There are multiple offices that you might be able to work of....for example, you could be assigned to the St. Petersburg office, but live and work out of the Atlanta office.

Cons

Late in 2009, it was decided that a good piece of the IT Department would be outsourced, and it is a very painful process. Departments do not talk to one another, and many team members are superstars looking out for themselves, and not working together as a team. Human Resources is quite the nightmare, as issues do not get addressed until there is a dire situation at hand. Employee situations that need to be addressed are ignored, and can sometimes persist for years, making very uncomfortable situations for fellow co-workers.
